Shepparton Art Museum is one of Australia’s leading regional Art Museums delivering an exceptional exhibition and publishing program curated by the SAM team. The Museum operates in a culturally diverse region with strong and continuing migration shaping the region. SAM is seeking an exceptional Curator to lead its exhibition, public and education programming in the provision of inspiring visitor experiences.
The Curator will be highly qualified with a track record in similar exhibition management roles in public museums. They will excel in project management and have experience developing teams, managing staff and working with diverse individuals, in the context of resource restraints. The incumbent requires exceptional integrity, trustworthiness, and honesty with the ability to connect authentically with a wide range of different stakeholders and communicate and listen effectively.
The Curator will play an important role in the shaping of the future vision for a potential new Art Museum in Shepparton and must have developed insight into history and philosophy of Museum practice and emerging industry trends.
The Shepparton Art Museum has a specialist interest in Australian ceramics and the promotion and development of contemporary art by artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. Postgraduate qualifications in art curatorship or a related field is essential as is extensive project management experience in a Museum context.
