About Limelight

Limelight magazine is published monthly and distributed to a loyal subscriber base and retail outlets. For nearly 40 years Limelight has provided quality, informed and independent coverage of classical music and the performing arts. Our website is one of the most visited arts websites in Australia, offering daily news, reviews and feature articles.

Limelight is owned and published by an independent company, Limelight Arts Media Pty Ltd, who acquired the business earlier this year.

The position

Limelight Arts Media is seeking a leader for a new position as General Manager, based in Sydney and reporting to the two owner-directors. The position is offered as 0.8 full-time equivalent.

As General Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Limelight Arts Media and work with the directors to develop and implement initiatives to ensure the long-term viability and success of Limelight.

The General Manager directly supervises the advertising sales manager and the subscriptions and operations manager. You will liaise closely with the editor, who manages the editorial staff and a team of independent contributors and reviewers around the country. You will also supervise Limelight’s relationship with key suppliers.

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Building and retaining the magazine’s subscriber base and ensuring their satisfaction with Limelight
  • Enhancing the website and digital offering to improve digital engagement and increase subscriptions
  • Supporting the advertising sales manager to ensure strong relationships with major arts organisations and other key advertisers and to develop new leads
  • Ensuring printing and distribution are managed for optimal efficiency
  • With the directors, identifying and developing new sources of revenue for Limelight including philanthropic and government support
  • Managing the intellectual property and legal aspects of publishing
  • General management of the business, ensuring a harmonious and safe working environment for all staff and overseeing financial processes and reporting.

Requirements

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate their ability to be a credible, respected public face for Limelight within the arts community and a trusted leader for staff and key suppliers.

You will be able to demonstrate that you bring:

  • A passion for the arts, particularly classical music
  • A successful record in a senior marketing position in the music, arts or related industries
  • Knowledge of the publishing industry is preferable but not essential
  • Proven ability to build strong networks
  • The leadership and entrepreneurial skills to develop and grow a sustainable business model
  • The self-awareness and inter-personal skills of a trusted leader of people.

Conditions

The position is offered as 0.8 FTE. These hours could be averaged over a month to allow for peak and lower times in the monthly magazine cycle. Some after-hours work and travel should be expected.

Limelight operates from a Sydney CBD office.

Salary is $84,000 (0.8 times $105,000) plus 9.5% superannuation with potential for bonus if you lead Limelight Arts Media to achieve profitable growth.

Please send your application by close of business on Friday 20 July 2018 to Bruce Watson at [email protected]
