We are looking for a Digital Journalist to support our newsrooms across the NSW Central West region.
This role is responsible for delivering high quality content to our audience when, where and how they want it.
Specifically, the role is responsible for helping the Group Editor, Digital and Managing Editor, Central West, drive digital strategy for the Daily Liberal, Central Western Daily, Western Advocate and neighbouring websites.
It is also responsible for implementing the group digital strategy, and ensuring the editors' daily digital requirements are met on deadline.
The role also forms part of a virtual team of digital journalists based in locations across Australia.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Develop strategies for growing our digital audience across mastheads alongside Editors, Group Digital Editor and the Editorial Director
- Be an advocate for our digital-first NewsNow strategy, ensuring content is developed in a way which builds engagement
- Post and maintain the masthead's social media accounts
- Collaboration and building a team
- CARE culture
- Participation in daily meetings, face-to-face and via Google Hangout, as well as structured training where required.
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Excellent writing skills and able to quickly respond to breaking news
- A genuine interest in digital news media
- A thorough understanding of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat
- An understanding of analytics across website and social platforms
- Able to quickly adapt to new digital tools and trends for news gathering, storytelling, and distribution
- Deep understanding of the digital media landscape/industry to produce digital content
- Team leadership
- The ability to work flexible and irregular hours
- Able to comply with company and editorial department policies.
