With global headquarters based in trendy Marrickville, Sydney we are looking for an experienced self-starter with a commercial and entrepreneurial spirit to join our dynamic Creative Team. 

Hands on Studio Manager that will manage and develop a team of internal graphic designers. Manage external contractors/freelancers and suppliers and control the budget for the Studio. Read all briefs, allocate projects, direct traffic and manage the workflow within the Studio to ensure deadlines are met. Also, have the ability to create and amend design jobs if and when required.

 

DUTIES

STUDIO MANAGEMENT:

  • Managing a project from briefing to completion – taking stakeholder briefs, consolidating stakeholder needs, assigning designers to a project, managing outputs and ensuring deadlines are met; no matter what
  • Creating and implementing workflow and project management processes to make for a smooth, efficient project lifecycle
  • Reviewing daily resource and workload schedules and booking freelancers (if required)
  • Creating estimates for studio time, printing and print management
  • Keeping everyone up to date on a projects status – stakeholders, clients and the team
  • Oversee adherence to approval processes and procedures, monitor workflow processes and implement continuous improvement measures in order to minimise rework with a ‘right first time’ every time ethos;
  • Quality control – does the design adhere to the client brief? A must.
  • Proofreading – double, triple checking of documents before they are sent to the stakeholder
  • Assessment and debrief management – celebrating the wins and understanding the losses; then discussing solutions to improve for next time
  • Ensuring VG artwork filing systems, artwork registers, etc. are maintained & updated correctly; driving system improvements Team – managing the team’s feedback, annual leave requests and annual reviews
  • Liaison Skills – with printing and other suppliers; negotiating quotes, maintaining procedures, production and controls to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of graphic assets ranging from catalogues, brochures, business cards
  • Facilitate daily team WIP meetings and supervise delivery schedules
  • Creation and management of Creative Budget and operational reports
  • Succession planning and cross-training within the team
  • Managing HR within a team of 5 designers and ensuring a happy yet productive working environment

DESIGN:

  • Strong understanding and versatile in working with CC Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Bridge
  • Advanced CC Photoshop and retouching skills are highly preferable
  • Textile Design – including; repeats and setting up prints technically for production methods
  • Graphic design – branding, digital and print layout design
  • Digital design – including amending of EDMs and other digital collateral
  • Ability to adapt to business demands and create artwork i.e. Business Cards and amend artwork as required i.e. Pitch Documents

 

EXPERIENCE

  • University or similar tertiary qualification in Graphic Design
  • Minimum of 4 years in Studio Management role in a Creative Agency
  • Intermediate to high computer skills across MS Office, Adobe Cloud;
  • Experience in using Asana – Harvest software desirable

  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritise simultaneous demands and adapt and respond appropriately 
  • Refined ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • Team-working skills and the ability to lead and motivate others, networking skills and the ability to get on with a variety of people
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • A complete understanding of all print methods and processes
  • Well refined stakeholder management skills with the ability to build rapport and manage ongoing internal and external relationships
  • A desire for quality and pride in all work produced; consistently careful and methodical with a strong eye for detail to ensure accuracy and consistent delivery
  • Ability to work on own initiative; pre-emptive and proactive; constantly thinking ahead; demonstrating a hands on and highly organised approach to all tasks
  • A deep knowledge of industry supplier services
  • Proficiency to multi task seamlessly and manage competing responsibilities
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a proactive approach to all tasks
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions independently, escalating when required
  • Integrity and a professional approach to work
