The Position
We are seeking a motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic Journalist to join our editorial team at The Queensland Times, based in Ipswich, to undertake the following duties:
• Writing informative and interesting articles on local issues.
• Cover a variety of rounds including business, property, health and human interest pieces
• Finding the angle of the story which will captivate our readers for both the QT’s print edition and the website
• Conducting interviews, researching issues and producing packages for the newspaper and website
• Shooting photos and producing videos for the website
The Applicant
The ideal applicant will need to possess the following:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to make strong connections in the community
• A passion for innovation in the digital space and a motivation to drive digital subscriptions and page views
• Excellent writing, research and newsgathering skills
• Ability to multitask and problem-solve
• Ability to work in a busy, fast paced environment, meeting tight deadlines
• Able to coordinate with team members to create print and digital packages on key issues within Ipswich
• News room experience is desirable
• Strong organisational and time management skills are essential
