Description

The Data Specialist role will consult on client projects to design and develop data integration processes to enable the creation of actionable insights. You will work proactively to:

• Design and develop processes to integrate data between and within systems including consideration of data sourcing, data loading, consolidation and reconciliation including consideration of requirements for meta-data, data quality, data profiling, data lineage, data reconciliation.
• Design and develop processes for automation, audit and error management.
• Perform data analysis of key problem areas within the client's information architecture to assist in root cause analysis.
• Design, develop and execute solutions to enable the comprehensive and effective testing of integration solutions.
• Maintain a broad and insightful awareness of the tools and technologies in the arena of data gathering, data transformation, data load, data quality management and meta-data management.
• Create and maintain documented interface agreements between systems including functional and non-functional requirements.
• Develop relationships with client stakeholders to support data integration activities.
• Apply visual analysis techniques and tool sets to extract patterns and meaning from data in a visual format. Clearly communicate discovered information to consumers using the visual variable shape, colour, hue, orientation, etc.

Profile

The successful candidate will have the following:

• Expertise and an understanding of the concepts and technologies around data integration.
• Strong understanding of the technical best practices for data movement, data cleansing, database tuning and optimisation and the ability to defend these positions to informed stakeholder groups.
• Experience using tools to extract data from a variety of data sources, assess basic data quality, extract and store basic metadata and apply various mutations, as instructed, to transform it into a status suitable for further analysis.
• A structured approach to problem solving.
• Demonstrated experience in:
  • A range of tools and technologies from leading vendors including IBM Infosphere suite, Infomatica, Oracle, Teradata, Microsoft.
  • Data integration, transformation and visualisation for ‘leading edge’ information management and analytic solutions.
  • Working within a structured System Development Life Cycle
  • Design/Build/configure file loading capabilities where data was provided in various data formats, e.g. CSV, XML, COBOL extracts
  • Data warehousing design and development as well as Data extraction, transformation and loading
  • Designing ETL capabilities with testability of the information flows in mind to ensure a robust, repeatable, high quality solution is maintained
  • Executing unit tests and validating expected results
  • Integrating data transformations with an enterprise scheduler
  • Data sourcing and requirements analysis
  • Supporting initial once-off data load/migration activities
  • Creating and maintaining data mapping specifications
  • Developing highly performant database views
  • Reference data/surrogate key management
  • Integrating exception handling and data lineage capabilities across a complex data flow
  • Creation of data quality measurements to support reporting
  • Data cleansing and Information Integrity
  • Metadata, Master data and Database management
  • Customer data integration and product information management
