ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Analyst, Senior BI Analyst or Senior Technical Analyst to work on a six-month business intelligence engagement in the Melbourne CBD. The role has two objectives.

  • Meet the immediate reporting needs of the client with fast-track development of reports and dashboards using already established technologies including Excel, Power BI over Excel, and Power BI over SharePoint lists.
  • Then progress the client organisation towards full-blown business intelligence through the introduction of a data warehouse, development of mechanisms to populate the data warehouse, and close engagement with senior business stakeholders.

In pursuit of these objectives, the Senior Data Analyst will:

  • identify data sources, methods of capture, structure, completeness, accuracy, rates of change, availability, and access permissions;
  • work closely with senior client stakeholders to agree on business processes which will contribute data to the data warehouse;
  • establish BI objectives, build out the data warehouse, establish master data, and begin a data dictionary;
  • develop and embed the business processes necessary for data capture by working with the business to determine requirements and constraints;
  • specify and implement technical mechanisms for capturing data from multiple data sources and populating the data warehouse;
  • provide requirements and business context for the development of a suite of reports and dashboards;
  • until the data warehouse is established, meet immediate reporting requirements by designing and building reports and dashboards using Excel, Power BI, and SharePoint lists; and
  • at all times emphasise meaningful metrics, effective visual communication, actionable insights and gently guide the client organisation towards BI best practice.

The outcome of this work will be a BI solution providing meaningful reports and analytics which highlight emerging issues, trends, actionable intelligence, and facilitate data-driven decision-making.

ABOUT YOU

To be considered for this role you should demonstrate the following:

  • Bach. degree in CS, IS, Engineering, Maths or similar
  • 5+ years in BI-focused business/tech analysis roles
  • Experience with data analysis and modelling

  • Tech experience with DW data capture

While not essential, the following would be looked upon favourably:

  • Postgrad qualifications in BI, analytics, data science, etc.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft BI stack
  • Previous consulting experience

Strong business partnering skills will be as important as technical skills. You will need to engage confidently with senior stakeholders, communicate clearly and persuasively, and negotiate effectively. In addition to the tangible requirements above, you should demonstrate soft-skills and aptitudes in the following areas:

  • Self-motivation, self-organisation, and autonomy
  • Verbal and written communication skills
