What are we looking for:

To work at Sentral you must be comfortable working on mission critical services as many schools can’t operate with Sentral. At the same time, you must want to continually push the product further and into new areas. Our service covers big data analytics, third party integrations, payments, communications, ticketing, and workflow automation. We are actively looking at how machine learning can be applied to existing customer data to improve their responsiveness to student issues.

Therefore, you must be a good problem solver first and foremost. You must be happy switching focus at the end of each sprint.  What your responsibilities will be:

• Enterprise web application development – primarily PHP and JS (this is not your mum and dad’s Wordpress site!)
• Implement web interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, and rich JS including AngularJS
• Be involved in technical discussion, planning, and development strategy
• Build new features with focus on extensibility and testability
• Encourage innovation and a warm, constructive and collaborative environment
• Think laterally to solve technical challenges potentially with new technologies

Essential Criteria

• 3+ years experience in web based software development
• Solid understanding of RDBMS especially MySQL and performance considerations
• Experience with building and maintaining database driven web based applications and RESTful APIs
• Comfortable operating in a Git-based development workflow (Git, JIRA, Bitbucket)
• Experience within the full app development lifecycle

Desirable Criteria

• Experience with automated testing (unit tests, functional tests, acceptance tests)
• Experience with modern frameworks (Symfony, Zend, Laravel, etc.)
• Relevant tertiary education
• Basic Linux Operating System knowledge
• Experience building cloud solutions on AWS or Azure
• Experience in designing secure systems and strong information security fundamentals would be highly regarded

• You must be an Australian Citizen or hold a current Australian Permanent Residency Visa.  No exceptions.
