SQL/Oracle Database Administrator

The Role
A key role in ensuring we deliver on our promise to our client, the SQL Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the stability, maintenance, security and availability of the Database environment across multiple Database Management Systems (DBMS).
 
Using tools and processes to deliver services to customers in accordance with SLAs, the DBA proactively managed and maintains customer infrastructure while initiating and driving service and process improvement.
 Actioning customer service requests within the agreed SLAs, the SQL DBA maintains accurate and timely updates to technical documentation and ticket notes within the Database Team.
 
The key role responsibilities of the SQL Database Administrator include:
  • Meeting client SLAs for system availability, uptime and reliability
  • Proactively managing, monitoring, maintaining and reporting on client databases for continuing business support
  • Ensuring clear and concise call notes in Service desk tickets to maximize operational efficiency
  • Engages collaboratively with internal and external parties to resolve and educate (both users and IT staff) on infrastructure issues
  • Acting as the technical escalation point for commonly used OS platforms and hardware.
  • Continuing personal education, maintaining currency and sharing knowledge
As the SQL Database Administrator, you will be required to perform occasional afterhours and on-call duties, these are on a rostered basis.
 
The Person
This role will suit someone who is proactive, has a sense of urgency and is passionate about their work and their ability to contribute to team and customer outcomes.
 
You will be technically skilled but even more than that, you will recognise the importance of this role, how it supports the customer’s business and how new ideas, customer advocacy and technological smarts can improve the productivity and effectiveness of the environment and the team.
 
You will have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to effectively manage competing priorities.
 
The ideal candidate will use their excellent written and communication skills to document and communicate technical knowledge and procedures to wide variety of users.
 
You will have extensive experience in database administration and troubleshooting. Ideally, you will have had at least 3-5 years of experience as a SQL DBA and retain your passion for excellence.
