An exciting opportunity exists for several Combat System (CS) Technical Officers to join our Communication Information System (CIS) team as part of the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) program.

CS Technical Officers are responsible for providing technical and engineering services in support of test and activation (T&A) activities. These include staging, providing production installation support, Installation Inspection, Set-To-Work, maintenance, integration, functional testing, alignment and calibration of CS equipment on the AWD platform. Tasks will also include fault finding and rectification of CS equipment defects to the lowest replaceable unit level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance in the analysis, implementation, packaging, handling, storage, kitting, staging, installation, and support of nominated CS equipment, components, subsystems and configuration items
  • Analyse technical documentation, engineering bills of material, and drawings to document production material needed for the installation and support of the CS
  • Conduct and support CS equipment in store maintenance activities, CS equipment pre-installation staging preparation activities and other CS installation activities as directed
  • Conduct CS installation inspection, set-to-work, alignment and integration activities
  • Conduct CS maintenance tasks and fault rectification activities
  • Support CS acceptance testing activities, including Sea Trials
  • Ensure all CS maintenance is performed using approved and current technical publications, instructions, data and systems Collection and provision of activity status information to the CS Activation Manager

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and follow detailed work instructions / procedures
  • Ability to solve complex problems and determine effective mitigation strategies, and
  • Ability to support the T&A leadership team by monitoring and effectively reporting the progress of assigned tasking in a timely manner
  • Ability to identify project opportunities and risks, develop capture and mitigation strategies and monitor and report on the status of the execution of capture and mitigation plans
  • Ability to effectively manage assigned tasks and activities with limited guidance and coordination
  • Ability to produce and investigate technical failure reports
  • 3+ Years technical experience within a maritime, defence or shipyard environment, ideally specialising in internal or external communication systems
  • Certificate III in Electronics Engineering discipline

Ability to obtain/maintain a NV1 level security clearance with the Australian Government Department of Defence
