What is involved in the role of the Smart Grid Analyst/Developer? 

Reporting to the Network Information Manager, the Smart Grid Analyst will have three main areas of responsibility:

  1. Develop and design Smart Grid systems, applications and analytic tools to improve network reliability, management.
  2. Cross Division Operational Support for day to day needs
  3. Develop tools to manage the data quality in our Asset and Network Management Systems to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the information that underpins our operation and planning functions

As the Smart Grid Analyst/Developer, what can you expect to do?

The role will require you to:

Revenue

  • Investigate different options, solutions and specifications for approved Smart Grid applications and liaise with the relevant SMEs and other technical and specialist resources where required.
  • Ensure detailed design of Smart Grid applications cater for both internal network purposes but are also capable of being marketed externally where applicable
  • Coordinate the high level design of solutions
  • Develop detailed business cases to quantify the benefits of the relevant Smart Grid applications
  • Leverage existing IT, Network and Asset Engineering strategic expertise to contribute to the detailed design of Smart Grid applications
  • Manage and engage external vendors, alliances and partners required to assist with detailed design of various applications
  • Complete detailed designs within the Asset Management budget parameters for approved solutions
  • Ensure all solutions meet security, technical and other defined standards.
  • Supervise or develop a Proof of Concept application build to proof that the proposed Smart Grid concept are indeed going to work and to fine tune the detailed requirements
  • Liaise with the relevant Project managers, IT and RTS staff to ensure a successful transition of all developed applications to BAU support.
  • Subject matter expert (database level) across all Metering, Asset and Network automation related systems
  • Coordinate business requirements across the divisions and provide data extracts or self-serve reporting and dashboards where appropriate in support of our Intelligent Utility strategy.
  • Translate Smart Grid application strategies and business requirements into operational design projects leveraging blended expertise from across the UE business
  • Work collaboratively with Information Technology (IT) to design Smart Grid Systems and associated architecture
  • Validate the integrity of data entered in United Energy's asset and network management systems by its service providers:
    • Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting to ensure the integrity of data in those systems and resolve issues where they exist.
    • Perform regular audits of the data in United Energy's asset systems, and develop reports for service providers to action.
    • Initiate projects to resolve data quality issues.
  • Develop policies, procedures and standards related to Asset Data Capture and Data Management:
    • Develop a data governance framework to manage data on all assets from inception to retirement.
    • Audit the adherence to policies and procedures by United Energy's service providers.
    • Advise and assist United Energy's service providers, in the compliance with United Energy's policies, procedures and standards.

What are we looking for in you?

The successful applicant will have:

  • Good understanding of GIS Systems (Preference of Smallworld)
  • Good understanding of Asset management Systems (Preference of SAP)
  • Good working knowledge of Oracle and SAP HANA databases
  • Working knowledge in SQL Programming
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Well developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • An Engineering (preferably Electrical) and/or IT degree

In addition to this, it would be highly desirable for you to have:

  • Good working knowledge of BI tool sets and dashboard writing
  • Experience in PHP and Java script writing
  • Ability to convey complex concepts in an easy to understand format
  • Well developed statistical modelling skills
  • Previous experience in the Utilities sector
