About the company
This Government agency provides important services to Queensland's emergency departments. They have recently invested in a program of works to upgrade their network, which has resulted in the openings of various Network Design roles.
About the role
As the Network Design and Implementation Engineer, you will support a series of significant ICT projects within the Network Implementation Projects team. It will involve analysing the current state of networking implementations, and developing network equipment configurations for the desired network state and implementation plans.
Responsibilities
- Analyse current state of networking implementations across sites for a variety of sizes
- Modify current design materials in line with updated network design standards and equipment types
- Develop bill of materials to guide third party vendor in building of network equipment for shipment and installation
- Develop 'soft' network configurations in line with updated network design standards for staging by third party vendors or remotely deployed via Element Management Systems
- Develop detailed implementation plans and test cases where necessary to inform the required steps to cutover efficiently with minimum disruption to business operations
- Active participation in on-site cutovers, ensuring obsolete network equipment is replaced
- Develop and test new network related deployment capabilities
- Ensure record keeping is accurate, and high value assets whereabouts and condition are maintained
- Staging and testing of equipment to specification where required
Skills and experience
- Experienced in the programming and deployment of multi-vendor networking equipment (routers and switches)
- Demonstrated proficiency in some or all of the following switching and routing protocols and related technologies:
- OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VRF, VRF-lite, VLAN, DMVPN, Spanning tree, EtherChannel (LACP), VRRP, HSRP
- Strong problem solving skills regarding network related technical issues
- Ability to work with third party vendors and deliver project outcomes
Highly desirable requirements
- Experience with Juniper, Cisco, and H3C networking equipment (MAN and WAN routers and switchers)
- Minimum of 3 years 'hands-on' experience in a network design proficiency
- Degree qualification in IT or related discipline
- CCNA or vender equivalent design proficiency
- Experience with Network Element or Network Management Systems
- Provisioning of LAN Access Control from both design and implementation context
- Previous experience in large scale ICT Projects and Programs, preferably with Government agencies
- Accurate record keeping
- Change management experience particularly in an ITIL environment
- High-level proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Visio
