Some background info:
Consider this newly vacant position with an iconic and adored Australian Company. They’re a medium sized enterprise (over 1000 seats) and are undergoing a large transformation moving to a very impressive IT model with the very latest cloud-based technologies. Currently 60% of their services are cloud based on the way to 90%. They have adopted Agile methodology, CI/CD and have a focus on automation. The people here are capable (and likeable) and the roles have a high level of autonomy. Being a medium sized company, you’ll have a broad technical scope and high impact.

The role:
This is what Network Engineering roles will look like in a few years’ time. We’re not after an old-school routing and switching engineer, we want someone who has a passion for cloud-based networking technologies, embraces automation and has very strong communications skills (we want someone who enjoys talking to the business and is an ambassador for IT)

The role will be the sole Network Engineer, as part of an internal infrastructure team of 12, the role is broad with a focus on network related cloud technologies, continuous improvement and projects.

Upcoming projects you’ll assist with include:

  • A large Data Centre move
  • A Netscaler to cloud project
  • An Atlassian to cloud project
  • Next-gen cloud security projects
  • Assisting with the networking component of moving their online platform to Azure
  • Decommissioning outdated gear
  • Mini projects enhancing existing network infrastructure, most likely moving it to the cloud.

On top of these you’ll be the technical owner for:

  • Keeping abreast of cloud technologies trends, making recommendations on new technologies to the business
  • All network equipment, configurations and standards
  • Telecommunication carriers and associated vendor management
  • Network security
  • Network performance and availability

You:

  • A modern engineering mindset – Automation and a passion for cloud networking technologies
  • Broad networking experience across modern, enterprise scale routing/switching/Wi-Fi and security
  • Exposure to SDN, Load balancing, Skype Online and QoS is beneficial
  • Experience integrating MLPS with Cloud Services
  • Some public cloud experience at a minimum, the more the better! (Azure preferred)
  • Good Layer 7 exposure
  • The ability to manage projects and vendors as well as talk with internal execs

The benefits

  • Career: You’ll gain a huge amount of cloud related network experience
  • Breadth: This is a broad role which will see you working across cloud services, routing, switching, security, wireless and application integration.
  • Projects: There’s quite a few.
  • A very modern IT model.
  • An autonomous role – You’ll be the only Network Engineer in the organisation
  • Salary of $130,000 p.a. negotiable.
  • A high impact role – your contribution will be seen, you’re not just a “resource.”
  • You won’t be working for a systems integrator!

For the right person this will be a very satisfying and interesting position in a very modern IT environment. Please apply by sending your resume to Jordan Pearce.
