Role Title: Project Manager - NAPLAN online transition

Start: ASAP

Contract - 12 Months

Location: Parramatta

Rate: up to $900 + Super



Background:

  • This is a national initiative, led by Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority ACARA. The aim is for students to complete NAPLAN tests using a computer or another electronic device, such as a tablet. Federal, state and territory education ministers have agreed that NAPLAN will move online from 2018. This means moving NAPLAN from the current paper-based tests to computer-based assessments. The Department works collaboratively with the NSW Education and Standards Authority, and Independent schools sectors to transition all schools in NSW by 2020.
  • NAPLAN online is a key national initiatives. CESE provides project management to support schools across NSW to transition online. This role assists the Program Manager in project management tasks to drive efficient delivery.

    Role purpose:
    The Project Manager, reports to the Program Manager, and is part of the NSW NAPLAN online program office. The role is responsible for the coordination and management of all project related activities necessary for the Department schools to transition to the online mode of NAPLAN. The new platform development is the responsibility of ACARA. The implementation, change management and adoption by NSW schools is the responsibility of each state and territory.


  • Proven success in planning and initiating large and complex projects, with a minimum 5 year plus experience in program or project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor project plans, including detailed resource scheduling, milestones and task dependencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, viz, IT field staff, school personnel, and national counterparts and program office.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, school staff, subject matter experts and technical teams across the sector.
  • Ability to successfully manage complex issues, in a cross sectoral environment.



    Key accountabilities:
  • Apply a structured methodology to create a detailed project plan that identifies scope, quality, schedule, finances, resources, risks, issues and dependencies to a high standard
  • Provide project management support to the Working Groups and governance groups. Produce regular reporting to various governance and stakeholder groups
  • Participate in national forums and work with the national PMO organisation to ensure adherence to program methodologies and assure program and project outcomes
  • Work with ACARA and ESA as required on technical aspects of the program.
  • Drive deliverables through coordination with all relevant stakeholders
  • Manage and resolve issues and act as the point of contact for the project
