Randstad are on the lookout for a Data Analyst (Access Database specialist) to be responsible for developing office tools, including databases, reports and spreadsheets, to facilitate a number of signage planning and design functions including message scheduling, job ordering, production tracking and poster allocation.

The Data Tools Specialist will be part of the client’s Wayfinding Program team in Customer Services Division.

Responsibilities include:

  • Database modifications and enhancements - Make modifications and enhancements to existing Microsoft Access databases in response to business needs and requests from the internal design teams, to enable the internal design team to input and check sign requirements information and output sign removals schedules, sign message schedules, setouts packages, site reports, tracking schedules, inspection reports, job tracking and other database reports.
  • Poster management - Develop a Microsoft Access database tool, including tables, forms and reports, to enable simple management of posters, register poster cases and locations, enable posters to be allocated to cases, and create reports that can be issued for poster installation.
  • Documentation - Capture and document requirements for tools from Wayfinding team members and managers. Document and maintain tool specifications. Create concise training documents and notes to describe how to use the tools.
  • Team support - Provide training and support to Wayfinding team members in the use of the tools. Support sign planners and designers by working with them to integrate the use of the tools into their project workflows. Seek team feedback, recommend solutions to issues and continue to refine and develop the tools based on developing project requirements.
  • Relationships - Form effective working relationships with other team members and key providers of relevant data and information, including other data teams within the government agency cluster.

Key challenges

  • Developing tools that can be successfully embedded into planning and design workflows, and reports that can be easily understood by the project users and stakeholders, including delivery and construction teams and external sign suppliers.
  • Working collaboratively and communicating with the design, information, interface and asset management functions within the Wayfinding team, and understanding business requirements.
  • Maintaining a flexible, outcome-oriented, problem-solving approach in a fast-paced operating environment.
  • Managing own time and workload effectively, including managing multiple tasks at once.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Experience developing and applying complex databases / reports (Microsoft Access) and spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) to support business functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business needs and to translate those into practical tools which can be used by non-technical team members.
  • Customer focus, good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with people at different levels.
  • Strong attention to detail and results focus.
  • Capacity to operate both independently, using initiative and self direction, and as a team member to produce consistently high quality work.
  • Time management skills including the ability to organise and prioritise own work and adapt work plans according to changing project requirements.
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
