About the Role

As an Associate Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Product Managers, Technical Leads, DevOps and other Engineers to propose and implement technical solutions that fulfill functional and non-functional requirements for our business.

Role Tasks

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on user stories, define requirements and agree on conditions of satisfactions. Clarify any ambiguity with the product owners
  • Prepare time estimates, schedules for projects and software design plans based on technology & resource availability
  • Co-ordinate and participate in sprint planning, estimations, daily scrum stand-ups and retrospectives
  • Gather requirements, write acceptance criteria and user stories collaboratively as part of team for ongoing maintenance of code debt and technical objectives
  • Conduct retrospectives periodically, identify and implement improvements, measure success and/or failure of outcome
  • Collaborate closely with our Product owners and internal stakeholders to understand their requirements so we have a good understanding of the problems we are trying to solve and we do not waste time on rework - and more importantly are able to suggest appropriate solutions to their needs
  • Coding to a high standard (clean, scalable, maintainable)
  • Drive innovation & motivation within Tech Team
  • Keep up to date with tech trends                             

Role Responsibilities          

  • Conduct retrospectives periodically, identify and implement improvements, measure success and/or failure of outcome             
  • Work closely with Product Owners, Technical Leads and technology teams to prioritise and plan sprints/backlogs               
  • Collaborate closely with our product owners and understand their requirements so we have a good understanding of the problems we are trying to solve and we do not waste time on rework and more importantly are able to suggest appropriate solutions to their needs
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to collaborate and work within a multi skilled team including external partners
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and recommend them for review and adoption within the CarsGuide architecture as appropriate        
  • Mentor and assist other members of team to use proper development techniques - role model and set the standard by which applications are developed at CarsGuide.       
  • Demonstrate flexibility in operating as part of a team     
  • Demonstrate an awareness of personal development needs and actively participate in self-development activities

  • Actively and regularly participate in relevant meet-ups, workshops and webinars to further enhance your knowledge and expertise            
  • Actively and regularly read relevant technical articles and blogs             

Desired Skills and experience 

  • Knowledge of Agile
  • Good PHP skills - experience with Laravel is a bonus
  • Understanding of a micro-services architecture
  • Working knowledge of AWS is preferable
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
