Cubic Defence Australia provides training systems and training services support primarily to the Australian Department of Defence, and is a subsidiary of US Cubic Corporation which specialises in military training simulation systems and services globally. Cubic supports an expanding range of Australian-based operations, providing services for Cubic's simulation training systems from offices in Townsville, Brisbane, Amberley, Newcastle and Canberra. 

 

This position is based in Canberra.

 

About the Opportunity

The Project Manager position will provide coordination and oversight of all Modelling and Simulation (M&S) projects plans for the ongoing maintenance and development of the ADSTC ICT capability.  The Project Manager will be responsible for the development of planning artefacts to support the implementation of the proposed technology solutions that have been endorsed by the appropriate systems owner. This position reports to the Director Capability Realisation (J75) within the Australian Defence Simulation Training Centre, and to the Program Manager Standing Offer Panels within Cubic.

 

This position is only available to Australian citizens.  Permanent Residents and working visa holders will not be considered, as the incumbent must hold a current Australian Defence Security Clearance at minimum NV1 level .

 

This position is a Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2019 with a possibility of extension.

 

The Person

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:

Essential:

  • Hold or demonstrated performance of PRINCE2 or PMBOK project management methodologies;
  • appropriate qualifications in an IT related discipline (Diploma or collection of Certificates), or proven work experience in IT based systems;
  • understanding of the design and management of M&S systems;
  • a sound understanding of the principles of service design and ITIL service design model as applicable to ADSTC; and
  • the ability to supervise a directed workforce.
  • An Australian Defence Industry security clearance at a minimum of Negative Vetting Level 1

     

Desirable

  • demonstrated experience in the management of IT security functions; and
  • the development and application of training systems and exercise development processes in Defence, including policy, standards and training outcomes assessment.

 

Personal Qualities and Experience

The Project Manager will work closely with military and contractor personnel on a daily basis.  The incumbent must therefore possess collaborative and customer focused approach.

  • must demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills; specifically, have the ability to communicate complex capability requirements and solutions issues and solutions to variety of audiences;
  • provide leadership to Defence and civilian teams;
  • build appropriate and effective business relationships;
  • make decisions which impact the success of assigned projects and allocate and manage the resources as appropriate;
  • assess and evaluate risk;
  • communicate effectively, both formally and informally, and
  • take initiative to identify requirements and achieve customer outcomes.

Serving members of the ADF must have declared their intention to discharge prior to Cubic receiving their formal application.
