Technology Data and Labs (TDL) is an Agile team that simplifies, differentiates, innovates and delivers for Suncorp. We design unique and innovative banking and insurance product solutions and technology platforms that deliver value for our customers.

The Software Engineer (Cloud Optimisation) is responsible for identifying areas for optimisation, working with delivery teams and leadership to deliver optimisation gains, and automating the visibility, reporting and analysis of Digital Technology Domain's Cloud service usage and costs. The resulting information and insights are delivered both actively and passively to both management and delivery teams throughout the Domain. Digital Technology has an extensive Cloud footprint, so the analyst will require enterprise cloud and software engineering skills to make the collation and analysis of cloud usage data both scalable, timely, insightful and relevant.

This role is also responsible for understanding Cloud providers service release road map, analysing the upcoming releases and making recommendations on their usage. 

Key Accountabilities:

• Interpret data sets for insights and make data driven recommendations.
• Cost modelling, data accuracy, data manipulation and reporting for visibility of cost optimisation hygiene and opportunities.
• Develop and maintain scalable enterprise tools to collate, report and analyse cloud usage data
• Automation of Cloud usage data collection and reporting through scripting and tool development.
• Develop a deep understanding of Cloud Provider's services, cost models and cost tracking tools.
• Working closely with the Cloud Optimisation Lead to ensure optimisation is built in to new delivery and platform solutions, whilst maintaining optimisation of existing platforms.
• Build strong relationships with Cloud hosting teams, Digital Tech delivery teams and Digital leadership to ensure optimisation is smooth and customer centric.
• Understand and execute the TDL vision for the Cloud strategy and roadmap.
• Deliver on Domain objectives to achieve Cloud strategy.
• Build and maintain constructive working relationships and engagement with Team Members, Stakeholders and Leaders across Digital Tech and Cloud Hosting.

 Skills & Experience

• Recent, 5+ years’ experience in a software engineering role
• AWS Essentials and Architecture qualifications
• Previous experience of data analysis, modelling and reporting
• Excellent full stack software engineering skills using languages such as Python, Java, Go and web presentation technologies and frameworks.
• Working knowledge of information technology and industry trends and issues
• Working technical knowledge of Cloud services
• Working knowledge of the operations of financial institutions
• Previous experience of working with Cloud services
• Previous experience of working in an Agile delivery team
• Previous experience of IT operations and app ownership in a large organisation (desirable)
• Proven capability in contributing to the strategic direction of a Domain
• Understanding of LEAN optimisation concepts
