The reason for this role...

This is an opportunity to join a successful, Australian company thats growing 20% year on year in its customer base and thus, growing their internal team to support that. With some major projects including the implementation of an advanced monitoring platform, as well as a revamp of their core platform, they are seeking to build out a new team to assist with this as well as maintaining and evolving other systems and platforms.


The Role:

The role spans a wide range of areas including the user presentation layers, data persistence mechanisms, communication adapters and computation frameworks. In order to succeed in this role, clear and concise communication skills are required, you will have contact with non-technical resources and must be able to clearly articulate complex technical problems into easily digestible snippets to allow business decisions and trade-offs to be properly evaluated by business customers who may not fully understand the underlying technology stack or problem.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Write code that is easily maintainable and extensible;
• Write good quality technical documentation;
• Perform effective unit testing;
• Perform code reviews on others code and give objective and well thought out feedback;
• Translate user feedback into functioning applications and systems;
• Provide accurate estimates on items of development work;
• Escalate any major design issues or project blockers to the appropriate stakeholders;
• Innovate and identify areas for improvement and communicate these appropriately;
• Highlight capacity or performance issues where they become apparent;
• Produce (on a rotation basis) technical reviews / presentations of pieces of work, products or solutions that will assist the team.

Skills Required:

• 3 + years proven commercial experience in software development;
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science;
• Knowledge of Java, Spring, jUnit, MySQL or other high volume database technology, Source Code Repository tools, Unit Testing, TDD development methodology, ORM tools (Hibernate), NoSQL databases;
• Open Source Participation, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS skills ;
• Demonstrated skills in software design, particularly Object Oriented techniques and design patterns;
• Strong knowledge of software development best practices;
• Experience working in an agile development methodology, preferably SCRUM based;
