The role 
As part of management, there is an expectation to manage the development team and oversee the team performing ongoing development of systems for the product areas within SAI Global Property and Knowledge IT Department. This covers both delivery of project and maintenance activities. The Development Lead will be accountable for 20% management and 80% development.

Responsibilities - Leadership and Delivery

• Oversee the release of code and database update into production and test environments.
• Ensure that production systems meet availability and performance requirements.
• Line management and personal development of a team of developers, providing technical leadership and mentoring to the team and champion technical innovation within systems.
• Building & maintaining a cohesive internal/external team that plays a key role in delivering innovative technology solutions to cater for customer requirements.
• Overseeing the delivery of project, continuous improvement enhancements through to release, ensuring status reporting/ jira is accurate and up to date
• Work closely with relevant teams internally to ensure alignment and seamless integration and implementation of existing and new systems
• Leading post-implementation reviews helping to demonstrate success or otherwise of projects
• Working with internal & external stakeholders to ensure system stability, availability, planning for future capability  and delivery estimates
  

Responsibilities - Development

• Translating requirements into robust code meeting documented business needs.
• Designing creative and innovative solutions
• Documenting software design and task estimation 
• Producing robust software containing minimal bugs and requiring minimal rework
• Producing quality code that is concise, readable and maintainable by the team
• Exercising attention to detail to ensure high standard of delivered software
• Building re-usable components and selling features to the team
• Writing unit tests and testable code
• Performing code reviews, i.e: BitBucket, GIT
• Performing integration tests
• Documenting systems changes and user guides
• Diagnosing system problems  

Selection Criteria

• Experience of people management and the ability to lead and influence others
• Proven experience in leading and managing the delivery of system/software development projects in a structured environment Experience in a variety of software development approaches and methodologies including Agile and Waterfall
• Experience with commercial software development in a team environment
• Strong knowledge of PHP web frameworks {such as Laravel}
• Understanding the fully synchronous behavior of PHP
• Understanding of MVC design patterns
• Solid understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, AngularJS, HTML5, and CSS3
• Knowledge of object-oriented PHP programming
• Understanding accessibility and security compliance frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of the common PHP or web server exploits and their solutions
• Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
• User authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
• Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system
• Familiarity with limitations of PHP as a platform and its workarounds
• Creating database schemas that represent and support business processes
• Familiarity with MySQL/SQL/NoSQL databases and their declarative query languages
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
