Join our Platform Delivery team as a Sybase / MS SQL Database Administrator and help us execute our global platform initiatives.

As an experienced IT professional, you will be responsible for delivering solutions and support for our evolving database environment in conjunction with the global team. You will work within out complex database environment, with Sybase ASE, Replication server, ECDA and IQ, all running on Solaris or Linux platforms and MS SQL Server running on Windows (both physical and VM using Always On capabilities). You will deploy, upgrade and maintain the database fleet, whilst providing feedback on the health of the environment and creating automation for repeatable requirements.

You’ll bring your high level of expertise in DBA, and have a strong interest in career advancement in a technical stream. In addition, you will work on a roster, encompassing a number of other global DBA’s across London, the US, Asia and ANZ.  Utilising your innate relationship building skills, you will work across a team of business users as well as the wider global IT team, to provide first-class relational database management systems support. You will thrive on taking accountability for the technical delivery of database projects, and be involved in disaster recovery planning and testing, automatic and manual executions of database system builds, installations, provisioning and finally deployment. With a focus on quality, you will ensure optimal performance and availability of our database systems at all times and also participate in scheduled weekend and after hour maintenance from time to time.

Your technical skills will include:

  • an expert level Database Administrator, with a strong primary skill-set in MS SQL Server AlwaysOn, Sybase ASE and Replication Server. IQ and ECDA skills are desirable but optional.  
  • minimum 10 years of relevant DBA experience
  • ability to work independently and strong sense of ownership
  • have an automate-first mindset
  • customer-focused with good verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to trouble-shoot complex database problems when escalations from the DBA Operations team occur
  • experience with perl and/or shell scripting
  • experience with PowerShell scripting. Ansible and pester experience is desirable
  • experience with code development products/practices like stash/git/branching/agile and JIRA
  • strong Windows, RedHat Linux and/or Solaris skills
  • knowledge of ITIL practice and demonstrable experience with change management processes and procedures
  • experience with VERITAS as well as SAN/disk replication products
  • experience with MS Cluster technology
  • experience with Cloud deployments (either public or private) preferred.

Core Sybase/MSSQL skills:

  • knowledge of MS SQL Server 2008 through to 2016
  • knowledge of Sybase ASE 15 through to 16
  • knowledge of Sybase Replication Server 15.7 and 16.0.

You will also possess experience in at least one of the following:

  • knowledge of SQL BI
  • knowledge of Sybase MDA tables
  • knowledge of Sybase replication server counters/monitoring
  • knowledge of Sybase MSA replication
  • knowledge of ASEMon for Sybase
  • knowledge of Sybase Replication Data Assurance
  • knowledge of Sybase IQ or ECDA.
