We are currently recruiting for a Technical Architect. This role will be responsible for developing infrastructure solutions in alignment with agreed requirements and formalized architecture patterns. Developing effective operational relationships across the delivery and management teams.

The opportunity

 

·         Be aware of IT strategy and to appropriately align effort with this direction

  • Ability to understand IT strategy and align the development of solutions to achieve the outcome

·         Throughout the lifecycle of a project own the design process from requirements development through to detailed designs

·         Provide solution leadership to the project manager and delivery team to ensure that solutions have integrity and are in line with broader project constraints, such as time and cost

·         Ensure that solutions are considered end-to-end in business terms and requirements are well understood by suppliers and the project team

·         Ensure requirements are managed to balance business benefits and solution constraints in order that projects scope is fit for purpose

·         Define documentation standards and coverage for technical solutions to ensure consistency and quality

·         Contribute to the development of artefacts that support to the overall architecture practice

·         Shape the early stages of projects to ensure that the project’s architecture is appropriately aligned with strategic direction

  • Monitor and review technical progress against the roadmaps to anticipate and resolve any issues so that the IT strategy objectives are met

·         Collaborate with delivery teams to fully identify all project constraints and validate the project solution, approach and scope

  • Understand and promote adherence to QBE’s IT Strategy, Architecture Principles, standards and Roadmaps to ensure solutions are in line with overall strategy

·         Provide architecture oversight through the complete lifecycle of project delivery

·         Maintain accurate logs of all key design decisions for projects and to ensure appropriate project documentation is in place

  • Use standard tools and approach to documenting solutions to ensure consistency across the team

 

 

What does success look like?

 

·         Excellent knowledge of problem analysis and design techniques

·         Expertise in relevant technical areas

·         An understanding of the inter-operation of hardware, network and software components necessary for the delivery of complete, complex systems

·         Good understanding of sound architecture, design and operation practice and principles

·         Excellent documentation skills – both at a detailed and summary level

·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate with and respond to the needs of diverse audiences

·         Ability to identify and quantify key areas of risk or complexity

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work to achieve deadlines

·         Experience of working in a change environment within a large-scale organization

·         Significant solution design and delivery experience

·         Significant experience in ensuring that infrastructure designs and subsequent implementations conform to architectural principles (e.g. supportability, future-proofing, consolidation), standards and strategy

·         Experience of working with third party service supplier / outsource providers

·         Understanding and experience with managing and operating complex infrastructure platforms, in real world operational environments
