We are looking for a Product Experimentation and Optimisation Lead to join our Data & Insights Team in Sydney.

This role sits within the Australian Metro Publishing (AMP) Product division.

This role is required to lead the design, execution, analysis, reporting, recommendations and ongoing process improvement to our Experimentation and Optimisation function. The candidate will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to design and deliver A/B and multivariate experiments, analytics and optimisation activities to ensure the AMP digital product suite meets or exceeds performance targets across audience engagement and conversion metrics.

In addition, the candidate will generate new ideas for product optimisation and look for ongoing improvement to the AMP Experimentation function and process.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead experimentation design, execution, analysis, reporting and recommendations
  • Manage day to day set up, monitoring and management of experiments
  • Interpret the data and deliver results that are timely, well structured, simple and actionable
  • Ensure follow-through and monitor the outcome of recommended site changes
  • Regular consultation with Product Directors to understand business and product priorities to deliver highly effective test design and interpretation of results
  • Work with engineers to support the implementation of recommendations
  • Collaboration with the data and insights team across data science, analysts, researchers and BI specialists
  • Ongoing analysis to identify experimentation and optimisation opportunities and new initiatives
  • Contribute to or manage other data science or analytics projects and activities, as required by the business

The ideal candidate must have the following attributes:

  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in experimentation design, execution, analysis, reporting and delivery of recommendations
  • Proven success in the delivery of recommendations to improve digital product performance
  • Ability to understand business priorities and challenges and turn this knowledge into a highly effective optimisation program
  • Strong numeracy skills and analytical thinking
  • Tertiary Qualified in Analytical Discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science)
  • Experience with web development, including JavaScript
  • Outstanding computer skills including intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyse, present and make recommendations from data - including proven ability to visualise data and create a simple, compelling narrative.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with experimentation tools such as Optimizely, Google Optimise or others
  • Experience with JQuery, HTML, CSS
  • Experience with chrome developer tools
  • R or Python
  • Machine learning (regression, random forest, SVM), text mining, deep learning
  • SQL
  • GA, Adobe or other analytics platform
  • Tableau
  • Experimentation experience gained in ecommerce or similar organisation
  • Understanding of the core metrics driving the publishing industry.
