The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer to be a part of our Network Asset & Intelligence Branch within Roads and Maritime. We are currently re-defining our data solutions landscape and the Data Engineer position plays a key role on supporting the team on defining big data architecture, automated solutions, best practices as well as advising and implementing data development solutions for data lake, warehouse and consumption layers technologies. The Data Engineer is a technical job that requires substantial expertise in Big Data technologies at an enterprise level, covering architecture, modelling acquisition, ELT and understanding of consumption layers. The Data Engineer will work with Network and Asset Intelligence colleagues from a tech lead perspective in order to:


• Overlook RMS Big Data architecture, models, tools and solutions
• Support the implementation of the Big Data Environment
• Mentor/Develop automated data development solutions utilising a range of big data related technologies
• Create data assets that assist Roads and Maritime in engaging customers and industry with information that illustrates the benefits of changes to customer behaviour or planning decisions

We are looking for a Data Engineer who can operate with a high level of autonomy and who can translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture, design, and high performing software; identifies and translates business requirements into system requirements.

The salary for this position is USS 11 ($135,443 - $144,521) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading (total package upto $160,057)

Essential requirements

• Experience architecting highly scalable big data solutions, using mainstream platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google, etc.
• Experience and enthusiasm for automation and optimisation of processes
• Experience in data engineering, data science, or software engineering
• Appropriate tertiary qualifications in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent, relevant professional experience
• Demonstrated experience with agile or other rapid application development methods
• Demonstrated experience with object oriented design, coding and testing patterns as well as experience in engineering (commercial or open source) software platforms and large scale data infrastructures
