  • Big focus on clever ideas, strong initiative, innovation & delighting customers
  • Fast moving, fun & innovative start-up disrupting the world of online education

Not your average university – who is RMIT Online?

RMIT Online, a subsidiary of RMIT University is an exciting ‘startup’ team dedicated to building a “Community of lifelong learners, successfully navigating the world of work”. We’re small, nimble, fast-paced and working on really exciting futuristic things.

We were created to leverage disruptive innovation in the higher education sector in key local and international markets. With student experience at the forefront of our design, we strive to build world-class online learning experiences with our leading industry partners. And we have a bit of fun along the way.

Sounds great! Tell me about the role?

You will support the RMIT Online team’s IT systems and will be the main point of contact for day to day activities in the office such as email, desktop systems and hardware requests. Working with a local tech team which includes senior leads that will mentor and support your development, you’ll be a highly approachable, friendly and knowledgeable technical guru!

This role is available due to an internal promotion, so there are pretty big shoes to fill. Our previous Tech Guru came from a different tech background of AI and machine learning, he’s extremely clever, solutions focused and delivers incredible customer service to everyone in the business with a smile!

You’ll be providing Desktop Support, Administration of accounts and applications, medium level hardware support (we have the broader ITS team). You won’t be pulling computers apart and adding RAM. We have desktop applications here that are supported internally.

A typical day may include:

  • Helping the team keep moving by troubleshooting desktop and user application issues
  • Managing system configurations. RMIT Online utilises various SaaS solutions for both day-to-day business and Project work which require ongoing tweaks and maintenance
  • Consolidating and supporting technology billing processes
  • Working with the finance team on technology procurements
  • Providing training for employees on RMIT Online’s technology e.g. Jira, Confluence and how to structure Project artifices and contribute to onboarding/offboarding processes
  • Automating repetitive tasks (both planning and implementation)
  • Supporting a cross-platform desktop environment on Mac and Windows devices

Some of the applications we use are:

Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Atlassian Jira, Trello, Slack, Zoom, Confluence, Salesforce, Tableau, TRIM, PageUp, ServiceNow, Canvas, Open EdX.

You’ll need experience in most of these, particularly Jira, 365 and Slack.

Let’s talk about you

Collaborative, engaging, strategic and with a fantastic sense of humour, you’re a fountain of knowledge, curious by nature and always willing to go the extra mile when delighting customers. You’re patient and tactful with fantastic communication skills and are great at coaching people of all levels when it comes to tech – you have a very strong service orientation.

You love to geek out and get really excited about productivity software that helps people get things done better! You’re completely across changes in tech and innovative new products and you’re solutions focused, always trying to improve process.

As an independent thinker, you’re the sole member of the desktop support team in the office, but you’ll also have support from the broader ITS team for larger issues. You need to be able to get out there and build relationships with them, and sometimes you might not have a  go-to person.

Ticking your boxes?

Send us your resume and a brief cover letter telling us about:

  • The most innovative tech you’ve implemented
  • A time when you delighted an internal customer
  • What excites you about joining RMIT Online

*Please note: Applications not addressing the above will not be considered.

RMIT is an equal opportunity employer committed to being a child safe organisation. We are dedicated to attracting, retaining and developing our people regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability and age. Applications are encouraged from all sectors of the community and we strongly encourage applications from the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
