The Cyber Team at the Australian Energy Market Operator:

AEMO is responsible for securing energy markets that trade in excess of $16 billion annually as well as securely operating critical infrastructure across the nation. We are looking to grow our security team across the full spectrum of cyber operations. About the Role:

  • Permanent full-time opportunity to be based in any of our six national locations; Melbourne, Sydney, Norwest, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth
  • Your opportunity to design, develop, deliver and sustain a robust and comprehensive cyber assessment and testing capability team
  • Mitigate Cyber risks by combining detailed knowledge of advanced actor cyber tradecraft and your technical skills
  •  Establish and execute a comprehensive program of tests and exercises to validate the effectiveness of personnel, procedural and technical controls across a unique and complex environment.
  • Feeding assessment findings back in to cyber defence and hunt operations

Key accountabilities:

  • Verify and validate the existing controls and security posture
  • Identification of improvements or capability gaps and the implementation of best fit solutions
  • Oversight and development of gates, process adherence checklists and communication
  • Threat modelling with the architecture capability including the use of Crown Jewel Analysis

Required skills and experience: 

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in computer science or technology related field
  • A minimum of 5 years within a technical cyber testing and assurance function
  • Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), or equivalent, highly desirable
  • Critical infrastructure experience within Energy highly desirable
  • Detailed understanding of contemporary adversary tradecraft, effective controls and models for adversary emulations including Mitre ATT&CK
  • Program and project management skills including financial budget management, scheduling and resource management
  • Ability to acquire knowledge in various areas including technical, business and environmental along with being highly adaptable to being able to apply this knowledge
