We are currently seeking expressions of interest for multiple Research Devops Engineers to join the exciting and innovative Monash eResearch Centre to assist in developing, building and maintaining our Research Centre for Australian researchers. Presently, we are specifically looking for Applicants with demonstrable experience and skills suited to contribute to one or more of the following four projects:

  1. Drone facility and analysis virtual laboratory – Focused on building a pipeline of digital infrastructure  (many written in Python) associated with obtaining and rapidly processing large datasets from drones.
  2. Epidemiology Modelling – Focused on designing, engineering and maintaining high-quality, innovative and fully performing software applications (many written in Python) being developed by the Epidemiology Modelling Unit.
  3. Devops of research safe havens – Focused on supporting the safe haven agenda of health and medical researchers by developing and operating a layer of increasingly autonomous deployments of web-scale IaaS
  4. The Characterisation Virtual Laboratory (CVL) and instrument workflows – Focused on helping instrument facilities to connect the national research cloud, and develop rich online remote desktops environments for data analysis and visualisation.

Within these projects, your key duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Design, code, test and install software solutions in a range of languages during various stages of projects
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in building, configuring and deploying innovative research systems
  • Provide expert, industry based advice to researchers, relating to specialist systems
  • Keep up to date with new technologies and changing industry trends to provide current and relevant solutions to researchers

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • A strong background in IT/ Science where you have demonstrated strong analytical thinking as well as problem solving skills.
  • Experience related to IT security standards such as ISM, and/or web-scale methodologies such as micro-segmentation
  • You will have demonstrable experience using SQL and relational databases management systems (i.e. MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Competency with Python or similar programming languages, such as R, Matlab and Ruby. Strong understanding and practical use of test automation principles and patterns.

Desirable:

  • Experience across multiple platforms such as Linux, Windows, Mac
  • Experience with Configuration Management and Infrastructure Deployment tools such as Salt, Puppet, Chef and Ansible
  • Experience with CI/CD processes and Devops tools like Jenkins, GIT.
  • Experience with cloud and container technologies like OpenStack APIs, Docker and container orchestrators like Kubernetes/Docker Swarm
  • Experience within a customer-facing environment
