About the role

Technology and Innovation is the foundation of our business. Constantly evolving, experimenting and raising the bar, Tech & Innovation tackle the hard problems and rise to the challenges of growth, new solutions to Excite’s booking tool, and a rapidly expanding suite of products and services, technologies, methodologies and frameworks. The aim of is to code and build world-class products that scale globally, engineer function and form and program to perfection with simple yet advanced tech. We innovate to change the rules of the game in the online travel industry.  

Due to strong growth and a rapidly expanding suite of products, an exciting opportunity has become available for a highly talented, dynamic Java Developer to join our exceptional team. Involve yourself in the travel industry as you work on all aspects of the software delivery process with projects such as e-commerce, web applications, microsites, building and supporting back end services and custom development. 

You will:

• Use the latest technologies and agile methodologies to build world-class web products
• Be an active participant in all aspect of the software delivery process
• Program to perfection
• Build applications that scale and are reliable
• Be passionate about solving technical problems
• Push the envelope, trying new things to achieve the desired results.

You will also possess:

• A proven track record building web applications & microservices that scales and are reliable
• More than 3 years of experience as an analyst programmer/developer in JAVA tech stack & frameworks
• Extensive knowledge of Java, Spring framework particularly Spring Boot, Postgres or other high volume database technology and NoSQL databases (Elasticsearch, Cassandra, MongoDB, CouchDB)
• Excellent integration experience with XML and JSON APIs
• Experience in other languages such as Scala, Python, Groovy, Perl (desirable)
• Experience with lightweight architecture
• Experience with Linux based development environment
• Experience with Agile Development Methodology & CI
• Be willing to work in a research capacity–to find, test, and critically review open-source frameworks and technologies
• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development or similar field
