The Organisation

Airservices is a government owned organisation providing safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible services to the aviation industry. Each year we manage over four million aircraft movements carrying more than 154 million passengers, and provide air navigation services across 11 per cent of the world’s airspace. Airservices has two major operating centres in Melbourne and Brisbane and a corporate office in Canberra. We operate 29 air traffic control towers at international and regional airports, and provide aviation rescue fire fighting services at 26 Australian airports.

The Role

When you look out your office window at Melbourne Airport, you see an Air Traffic Control tower and airplanes landing and taking off. When you leave work each day, you know that the projects, applications, databases, and embedded and distributed systems you’ve supported and developed have contributed to the safe travel of the people in those planes. If you are a professional software engineer who is up to the challenge of working on high reliability and safety critical systems, then this is the job for you.

The Person, Skills and Experience

Would you describe yourself as:

  • Having several years’ industry experience

  • Willing to adhere to high standards of engineering excellence
  • Able to work across the full systems lifecycle and take an agile or more traditional approach if needed

And do you have:

  • Expertise in multiple programming languages, such as C, C++, Java (SE and EE), Python, SQL, ASP .Net MVC
  • Experience in creating and supporting complex software across a variety of platforms
  • Windows and Linux systems knowledge, including system administration and writing batch/shell scripts
  • Strong systems engineering and documentation skills with experience in preparing requirements specifications, design documents, test plans and system support manuals
  • Exceptional communication skills for liaising with a variety of engineers, project managers, system users and technical support personnel across Australia
  • An appropriate Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology degree from an Australian Tertiary Institution, or certified equivalent qualification
  • Australian Citizenship with a Baseline Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain
