Detail information about job Data Centre Engineer. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Fully virtualized and software defined environment
  • In house - not a consultancy or external service business
  • On the job learning and expertise on offer - VMware career path

Company

The company is one of Australia’s leaders in its sector and is part of a multinational entity in the process of bringing leading edge technology into its operations.
Like all our clients, they place the highest emphasis on culture and wider team collaboration – your ‘technical’ skills, a close second.

The're currently going through a period of transformation, upgrading the core infrastructure and systems to better support the ongoing business needs.  This role will be part of the team that is leading the change and offers the right candidate the opportunity to help build and support the new environment.

Culture fit
The company have been successful through their people by finding those with similar values, so we’re looking for these traits first and foremost.

You’re team-oriented and adaptable, ready to jump in and suggest or help. You probably love investigating and solving problems of your own accord; finding and creating new processes and solutions; picking things up end to end, even if it’s an unexpected piece of work. It’s not the type of environment where team members say ‘that’s not my job’.

In this <20 person wider IT team, you’ll never feel like a number or a work-horse – rather, an important member of a company who cares what you think, within a truly adult environment.

There's a VMware career path for you.
The company lead the way in on the job training. There’s a clear career pathway to advance you to configuring VMware under their strong team mentorship and technical exposure. This is the sort of day-by-day teaching that no course or certification can offer.

As part of their consistent growth, this role supports and maintains our distributed and centralised virtualised environment across their business operations in Australia and New Zealand. This role will also provide technical support for multi-functional projects delivering medium, complex technology solutions.

Projects
The company has reached a point where they’ve almost migrated to fully virtualised environments, as well as being fully software defined. Your experience and/or interest in projects around cloud integrated environments would be very welcome.
Upcoming, there is a huge amount of of interesting work around standardising, optimising and simplifying these new environments as well as an AD upgrade.

For this role to be a good fit for you, you’ll be:
  • A Microsoft Active Directory expert on an operational level. Unfortunately we can’t entertain network experts for this role, as the company has these skills in-house.
  • A person with demonstrated experience in Microsoft networking/domains, Microsoft AD, Exchange, ADFS, O365, Group Policies
  • Someone with well-developed knowledge of Microsoft server and operating systems, data centre technologies (VMWare highly regarded)
  • An actual people person – you’re a professional and know how to be clear, articulate and calm when helping your team or vendors/partners with issues
  • You’re Microsoft certified and experienced but more importantly, you know how and why you do things in the MS environment.
  • A born collaborator. This isn’t enterprise level IT scope, so your interest and capacity to work and share across a smaller unit is really key
  • Experience working within Agile or DevOps environments
Some day to day operations and responsibilities:

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, this role is responsible for the ongoing operation of the virtualised environment, including technical support and compliance that ensure guaranteed coverage to the business as well as developing robust processes and compliance with SLA's.
  • Your smaller group is primarily focused on solutioning servers and installing software
  • Building, configuring, managing admins and domains with exchange troubleshooting and support
  • O365 mailbox issues and some 2nd/3rd level AD support
  • Occasional applications support and investigation for third party supplied applications
  • There is an occasional on-call component for you which is compensated and fully limited to server related issues (not service desk)
About the process
Upon application, you may receive a (short) request for a few more details. To move forward in the role, we’ll need you to be on board with the process – sometimes a CV doesn’t seem like a match, so we’ve created some tools and methodologies to make sure we don’t miss anything.
