The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Telecommunications Facilities Specialist Network Services to be a part of our IT team within Transport for NSW. This role plays a key part in strategy, planning and execution of IT initiatives for the Transport cluster. This role reports to the Technical Solutions Manager, Network Services.

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the quality assurance, data integrity, availability, reliability and capacity of telecommunications facilities and infrastructure within the TfNSW environments. This role provides oversight of physical capacity, redundancy, security and operational governance of telecommunications and networking infrastructure located within TfNSW communications rooms. 

The Facilities Specialist, Network Services is responsible for rack space allocation, UPS availability and effective power distribution, cabling standards and patching records and is a key contact to conduct network carriage feasibility, small site planning and project delivery objectives for each project and business unit. This role also ensures that the managed network service and telecommunication suppliers deliver cost efficient and reliable IT services that meet the ongoing needs and expectations of the Transport Cluster.

 

We are looking for a motivated and hardworking individual who has the capability to assess and advise on site developments and has experience in engaging on an ad-hoc basis for operational or project related activities.

Essential requirements

  • ACMA Open Cabling certification with associated endorsements in structured cabling, optical fibre, coaxial, underground, aerial, broadband & testing.
  • Industry Cabling Provider Certification/s such as Systimax, Siemon, Molex, Clipsal, Panduit, Krone and/or AMP.
  • Experience working within a large complex and varied Enterprise environment; with prior project-based experience in managing hybrid support environments e.g. in-sourced/outsourced multi-vendor platforms.
  • Extensive technical experience analysing, assessing and supporting telecommunications and network infrastructure for a large, complex and diverse organisation.
  • Ability to work additional hours outside of ordinary working hours
