Overview

This is a technical role where the successful candidate will need to have a keen interest in data with strong technical proficiency in SQL, Power BI, Excel, ETL Tools and PowerShell. The candidate should also have experience in data analysis, consolidating data sources, scoping data projects and identifying opportunities for business improvement.

The candidate must be able to critically analyse and link data to program requirements, investigating and challenging ideas when encountered.

It is envisaged that engagement will be initially for 3 months with the possibility of a 9 month extension.

The position is based in Canberra, A.C.T. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be Australian Citizens.  This position requires a current baseline security clearance.

Assistant Manager ETL/BI Developer

In this role, as an  ETL/BI Developer, you will need to have a keen interest in data with strong proficiency in technical tools such as SQL (including SSIS) and Power BI and experience in data system improvements, data visualisation and reporting. You must have experience in business analysis be able to critically analyse and link data to program requirements, investigating and challenging ideas when encountered.

You will engage with internal ICT areas including database administrators, ICT security and Data Management to build supportable solutions. The ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders is required as you will work with private companies, contractors, and consultants.

This is a highly agile role that will require you to be adaptable and be responsive to change. In return, you will have opportunities to challenge thinking and solutions in areas that make a direct contribution to process improvement. 

Key tasks may include

• Be able to rapidly get an understanding of the business needs of Venture Capital programs
• Be able to build and document a SQL DB to hold Venture Capital reporting data
• Build ETL processes to load data via PowerShell from legacy spreadsheets as a once off to the SQL DB
• Build automated and ongoing ETL processes to load XML data from Smartforms to the SQL DB
• Build tabular models for the SQL DB
• Determine requirements for, and build Power BI reports for the Venture Capital business area to use for reporting and compliance using the tabular models
• Train the Venture Capital business area on how to use tabular models so they can build their own Power BI reports
• Document the technical solution in a detailed design
• Facilitate the handover of the technical solution for support and maintenance

• SQL Server: to build, document and maintain SQL databases
• ETL Tool set:  SSIS and SQL Task and ability to build tabular models
• BI Tools: Power BI, Excel
• PowerShell scripting
• Use of VSTS for managing source code (Visual Studio Team Services)
• Agile and waterfall methodologies highly regarded
• Systems analysis and testing skills
• Strategic thinking and creative problem solving skills
• Strong team work, collaboration and negotiation skills
• Experience in developing or delivering government policy
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
