The Social Research Centre is Australia’s leading provider of social research services to government, academia and the not-for-profit sectors. Established in 2000, we are a social impact organisation dedicated to conducting world-class research that informs decision-making and advances our understanding of Australian society.  The Social Research Centre is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Australian National University (ANU).

We are looking for an experienced IT Manager who can take us to the next level in our use of Information and Communication Technology. The IT Manager will lead a small team of 2 staff to take carriage of a range of projects in order to drive efficiencies, process improvements and integration across the various business units (Research, Analytics, Call Centre and Corporate Services). This hands on role will implement innovative technologies in the online space, especially pertaining to data collection, software as a service and process automation. This is a full-time permanent position, based in our Melbourne offices.

Key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Manage the implementation and refinement of an enterprise-wide information technology strategy and manage IT architecture across the organisation to ensure technology investment is aligned with and informs the Social Research Centre’s overall corporate strategy
  • Manage current projects including
    • Call Centre Dialler implementation
    • SharePoint as replacement for file server
    • Migration of data collection SQL from single server to cluster
    • Implementation or IRAP and ISO27001
    • Automated Interface for client data upload and verification
  • Lead a team of IT professionals to support end users, network, security and server infrastructure
  • Research and implement suitable technology to streamline internal operations and optimise their strategic benefits
  • Oversee technological infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, including addressing and incorporating up-to-date advances in the field
  • Develop and maintain IT processes, policies and standards to comply with relevant legislative and best practice requirements
  • Manage the interface with external stakeholders to ensure the safe, secure and efficient delivery of IT services

Key Selection Criteria (please provide written response)

  • BSc/BA in computer science, engineering or relevant field
  • Proven experience as IT Manager or similar
  • Proven track record in successfully delivering technological projects to drive efficiencies and integration
  • Demonstrable success in designing/developing IT systems and planning IT implementation
  • Proven experience managing cloud and hosted services
  • Strong hands on skills with Linux, VMWare, SQL, PowerShell, SIP, Exchange/Office 365 and SharePoint server
  • Exceptional leadership qualities stakeholder management and communication skills with proven ability to engage with and develop strategic partnerships with third parties to deliver IT strategy objectives
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to perform root cause analysis
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to present and write for a range of audiences
  • Ability to work under pressure, self-motivated and able to meet deadlines

Also considered highly desirable

  • Solid understanding and/or experience with data collection and data analysis
  • Previous experience in a research or data-oriented organisation
