Background

Myriota is a satellite communications company specialising in ultra low cost remote Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity. Recognised as a global leader in satellite IoT, Myriota recently closed a $20m Series A funding round with investors including Boeing HorizonX Ventures and Singtel Innov8. The company is entering an exciting phase of rapid global growth and expects to triple in size in the coming months.

Position Summary

Myriota’s service is built on top of an event driven data pipeline, hosted on AWS and comprised of loosely coupled services following a pub/sub pattern. The Backend Developer is a crucial role to ensure the company can scale out and provide reliable connectivity to a huge number of IoT devices around the globe. You will develop, deploy and manage services to process the IoT data flowing through our network and to implement web facing APIs (currently with Flask). Current compute workloads range from FaaS services to intensive, semi-persistent services on EC2 and EKS. With a strong focus on availability we continuously push code via blue/green and rolling deployments.

Responsibilities

• Improve and scale existing services and develop new services as required

• Work closely with the front end team defining APIs required by our UI

• Develop and manage APIs for customer consumption

• Contribute to ongoing security posture reviews, incident responses etc

• Help to automate all the things, all the time

Things you’ve done

• Developed and managed cloud native, distributed applications for at least 2+ years

• Thought about security, at all levels of the stack

• Defined, documented and supported web facing APIs for internal and external use

• Developed services and tools using multiple languages and technologies

• Learned that things fail, all the time, developing strategies to manage failure

• Obtained a degree in systems engineering, computer science, or similar

Things you might do

• Develop and manage services in Python, Go or your language of choice

• Continue to Improve system wide observability

• Continuously deploy to EC2, Kubernetes and Lambda

• Test all the things, all the time including in production

• Choose when to buy and when to build new services

• Create services to manage a growing constellation of satellites
