DevOps Engineer - Claims Technology

Suncorp’s vision is to be the destination for the moments that matter.  In Claims Technology, we provide an agile and robust Claims Platform servicing 13 Suncorp Brands across Australia and New Zealand. Working with our Business partners, we help design solutions to complex business problems in both the Commercial and Personal Insurance market, covering Property, Motor and Workers Compensation lines. Our team leads the way in API design and development through which we’re supporting the creation of a Suncorp Marketplace to make it easy for customers to meet all their financial wellbeing needs and save them time by managing brands and solutions in one place.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will continuously improve our software development process through automation. You will also ensure that our Claims platform always remain stable and per formant by implementing sustainable and automated maintenance processes and consistent monitoring and alerting practices. You will play a key role in embedding a culture of automation in our Platform team through the evangelisation of DevOps practices and mentoring of fellow software and system engineers.

Key Accountabilities of the role

• Maintain a stable and performant Claims platform through sustainable and proactive maintenance and well designed and configured monitoring and alerting.
• Create tooling to streamline development build and deployment.
• Drive automation of environment setup and configuration.
• Review existing platform processes to identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
• Mentor software and system engineers in the use of automation tools, technologies and best practice.
• Work collaboratively with other technology domains within Suncorp to ensure alignment in automation tools and processes and to enable knowledge sharing and script re-use.
• Maintain awareness of new automation technologies and processes within the industry for evaluation and   adoption.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience

• Bachelor Degree in Information Technology / related disciplines or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of software engineering experience with at least two years of DevOps and automation experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Agile development methodologies.
• Experience of automating system and script testing using TDD or similar.
• Experience with Python and Ansible scripting, Source control systems e.g. Stash, Nexus and Continuous integration tools like Jenkins will be highly regarded.
• Experience supporting high availability production systems.
• Experience in Cloud Technologies is favourable.
