The Role:

Responsible for delivering trend inspired design direction, development of mood boards and colour palettes in line with the Forever New hand writing by designing a balanced range for the specified product area/s, in collaboration with the Buying team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Under the guidance of the Buying & Design Manager present trend boards per product category, with direction from monthly story boards, to buyer to ensure that key trends, shapes, colour direction and fabrics are considered 
• Ensure comprehensive knowledge of local and overseas market trends through various mediums including magazines and online research
• Analyse relevance of trends for brand and plan ranges accordingly in collaboration with the Buying & Design Manager and Buyer
• Ensure ‘finger on pulse’ of emerging trends to ensure Forever New is first to market with new trends
• Create/visualise outstanding new designs in line with Forever New handwriting and product strategy
• Research fabric trends for the season and brief Production team to source fabric and trims
• At initial product development stage provide input to the product framework to ensure that the category’s design direction is balanced, reflecting new trends and optimising “updates” to existing best-sellers
• Complete the design brief, post concept sign off, to the standard required, ensuring detailed accuracy, and that QA, and Production are adequately briefed to minimise re-work
• Work with Buying & QA to ensure consistency of fit and best quality of fabric and trim, make and finish
• Ensure high quality standards of fabric, colour, trims and fit are achieved, by working with Buying to deliver the required result
• Contribute to team performance through effective collaboration to drive efficiency
• Provide clear communication and guidance to Design Assistants in order that the team and personal achievements are met

About You:

• Experience in a fashion business
• Skilled in visualising design concepts (by hand and/or PC/MAC)
• Ability to translate fashion trends into commercial design concepts
• Creative talent and high attention to detail
• Basic technical knowledge and garment construction skills
• Fabric and raw material knowledge  
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of all critical path elements and their impact on sales
• Knowledge of local and overseas fashion retail markets
• Understand the Forever New customer and respond effectively to her needs
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team
• Ability to work under pressure, working to tight deadlines
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook and Word)
• A Bachelor of Fashion Design/Graphic is essential
