About us:

Jalapeno Creative is a South Melbourne based, creative design studio offering a wide range of print, digital and branding solutions. We primarily focus on clients within the property and food industries and also design to support businesses with employee experience solutions. We're a tight nit, collaborative team with a mission to build brand solutions through strategic thinking, strong communication and creative knowledge. We also like Jalapenos. They’re delicious.

We’re looking for a part time senior graphic designer to assist the design director and contribute to the daily management of the WIP, delegation of tasks, uphold brand integrity of all our clients by consistently delivering creative, beautiful and workable design solutions.

Excellent time management skills are required to balance multiple projects as is an eye for detail to ensure all work sent is pixel perfect and free of error. Passion for the design industry, a positive attitude and the ability to work well in a small team is a must.

About the role:

We're looking for someone 3-4 days a week initially with the possibility of moving to a permanent full time position.

  • You must be able to work autonomously, be confident in your abilities as well as share your knowledge with the team so that we can continuously find and explore new ways to improve design across print, web and devices.
  • You should also have a minimum of 5 years' experience working in a creative studio or agency environment or similar position.
  • Take a creative lead on brand development and related campaign materials
  • Development of POS, packaging, printed collateral, large format and environmental graphics etc from concept to completion (final art)
  • Ability to self-manage workload and delegate tasks to team members to ensure deadlines are met and our client’s brand integrity is maintained
  • Support design director by taking design lead on branding projects and responsibility for the brand consistency of campaign collateral.
  • Proven UI and UX responsive design experience and ability to create, read and design site maps and user flow diagrams.
  • Experience designing email marketing campaigns, digital and social media banner ads and being able to design to specifications as provided by third party advertisers.

Required skills and background:

  • Excellent collaborative skills

  • A strong eye for colour, composition and typography
  • Experience working in UX and UI design
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent Mac literacy and knowledge
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • A proven track record delivering commercial design
  • Ability to manage time to ensure deadlines are met or well managed a head of time
  • Exhibit good design practices with the prospect of being an example to junior designers
  • Confident speaking with clients and suppliers
  • Ability to creatively workshop a brief and see it through to completion
  • Further education in graphic design or similar (degree or certificate)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Thorough pre-press knowledge relating to die lines, embellishments and printing techniques (offset, digital, letterpress etc) and recognising when each should be used relating to budget, quantities or quality

Nice to have:

  • Experience with CMS Websites (WordPress)
  • HTML and CSS knowledge and proficiency
  • Animation Experience
