Garment Technician - Womens Apparel

The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Garment Technician to join the thriving  Production team at our client in Sydney.  You will be responsible for establishing and communicating standards relevant to fit, manufacturing and quality assurance of local and offshore product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Design team to review tech packs and produce any specifications required for garment production at initial sampling stage
  • Establish and maintain appropriate construction standards across all classes with all suppliers
  • Establish and maintain fit criteria to standardise garment specification between suppliers and garment types
  • Measure all samples prior to fittings and note any variances & any workmanship issues
  • Lead fit sessions for all garments
  • Communicating all fit comments to the suppliers and working with suppliers to address any problems and queries
  • Create and approve graded specs for all styles in line with industry standards and communicate to suppliers
  • Create and manage a spec library for all garments
  • Assess and communicate the approval of all pre-shipment samples and communicate major issues with the suppliers
  • Assist in the approval of all final inspection reports of bulk production approval and communicate any concerns / issues raised to the design and production team and in turn the suppliers
  • Review and approve fabric lab test reports and care labels
  • Manage and review any faulty stock and make recommendations on how to rectify any issues
  • Notify relevant Production team members of any faulty issues so discounts or cancellations can be negotiated where appropriate
  • Create fortnightly returns report to identify and issues with products or suppliers, and make recommendations for these to the relevant teams

The Ideal Candidate has:

  • Min 3 years’ experience in a Garment Technician position
  • Cut and sew product experience is an advantage
  • Knowledge and exposure to global textile sourcing and materials
  • Proven understanding of off-shore manufacturing and retail business acumen
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail in both workmanship and overall quality of a garment and trims
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.  Skills in Adobe illustrator would be an advantage
  • Strong knowledge of fabrics, properties and finishes
  • The ability to manage your own time and responsibilities in line with the Critical Path, working to deadlines and under pressure.  
  • Excellent garment construction/technology and patternmaking experience and knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards with regards to fit specifications and grading across all product categories
  • Confident and respectful communication skills when liaising with internal team and external suppliers
