The City of Kalamunda is seeking an experienced Town Planner to work with a well established Statutory Planning Team.

Working in a supportive team environment, this contract will be required on a full time basis - Monday to Friday with one rostered day off per fortnight for a 12 month period to cover maternity leave.

About the Opportunity

This position provides professional support to the Principal Statutory Planner and Manager Approval Services in respect to the delivery of key statutory plans and projects, policy development, Scheme amendments and structure plans, and ensuring that the planning function is consistent with the Council’s planning philosophy and statutory obligations.

The role also provides advice to the organisation and the community on statutory planning matters and administered through the City’s Local Planning Scheme and associated Policies.

Working in a well-established team, with ready available support by Supervisors as well as colleagues, the role requires:

• An experienced planner who delivers high quality customer service and has an understanding of the broad functions of Local Government.
• The knowledge and ability to interpret legislation and policies related to the position.
• Interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to negotiate in difficult situations.
• Professional and well established written and verbal communication skills.
• Superior presentation of advice, instruction/guidance and research findings, both verbally and written, via all standard forms of business communication (including email, memo, letters, reports; draft policies & procedures; and on occasion the development and delivery of visual presentations).
• Tertiary qualifications as a Town Planner.

Some of the duties:

• Prepare recommendations to the Western Australian Planning Commission on subdivision and strata applications.
• Assess and prepare determinations on development applications.
• Prepare reports to Council with recommendations on developments applications, scheme amendments, policy development and review.
• Assist with the coordination of community consultation as required.
• Assist with the coordination of strategic planning projects and policies when required.
• Resolve disputes on planning matters with Council’s guidelines, policies and practises and community expectations.

Remuneration and Benefits

This is a 12 month contract to cover maternity leave commencing 13 August 2018.  The salary on offer is Level 6 in the range of $75,529 - $81,230 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation.  

In addition, you will receive an EBA increase, 22 days paid annual leave with 17.5% loading and one rostered day off per fortnight. 

Hours of work:

This is a full-time position Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day.
