Overview

Council is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic applicant for the role of Development Planner. The position requires tertiary qualifications in Planning or a related field, and will play a key role in the assessment of development within the Shoalhaven Region. The successful applicant will possess strong organisational and interpersonal skills, and be familiar with Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. Local government experience is highly desirable.

Your New Role

Reporting directly to the Senior Development Planner, the focus of this position is to:

  • Provide for the protection, promotion and improvement of the natural and built environment and public amenity and safety by:
    • Providing professional advice, education and guidance.
    • Administering and enforcing the Acts and Regulations under various legislation and Council policies.
    • Working cooperatively with other Council Groups, the whole community and state agencies to achieve improved land-use management, high quality build and natural environments and public amenity.

  • Coordinate, manage, assess and process development applications which range in complexity and value.

The advertised salary includes a discretionary weekly Market Component which may be payable to candidates with exceptional skills, knowledge and experience.

About You

In order to be successful in the position, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related field.
  • NSW WorkCover Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in local government in the operation and management of the development assessment and control processes.
  • Technical and specialised knowledge in the assessment of development applications pursuant to Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and other related legislation.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Recent graduates will be considered.
