House of Quirky is seeking a senior apparel Textile & Print designer with management experience to join the Sydney based design department.

As Textile & Print Designer and Manager, you will work closely with the apparel designers and product developers across all of House of Quirky’s brands/divisions to create relevant, commercially viable prints and artwork whilst managing all facets of the print department and as well as the direct reports.

In addition to being a team player and motivating leader you will be well organised, efficient, resourceful and passionate about fashion and culture.

You will have exceptional communication skills and have experience if being able to deal effectively with offshore mills and factories whilst keeping to multiple deadlines. 

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

·       Seasonal trend forecasting - Research, identify and interpret key trends for both colour and textiles for Australian and International markets

·       Designing and developing artwork for all brands and divisions including; prints, knits, embroideries & appliqués etc. across yardage and placement applications

·       Creative design time management to ensure a smooth workflow and that all deadlines are being met

·       Managing the workload of the print team to ensure that all members are working to their full potential and are supported where necessary

·       Print sourcing - online and vintage. This also involves understanding the each brand and being able to pick prints that suit that brand handwriting

·       Management of relationships with international and local studios

·       Management of new, archive and vintage artworks

·       Having a thorough understanding of printing & textile techniques and when to use them.

·       Set up artwork including technical repeats, colour separation and pantone colour selection ensuring that all artwork is technically accurate for production and produced in a timely manner

·       Managing online file sharing system with overseas factories

·       Manage print developments and strike off library - ensuring that all strike-offs are organised and easily accessible and are processed in a timely manner.

·       Management of supply issues associated with all mills & factories

·       Manage the print department budgets and trackers

·       Support the director where required

·       Ad hoc tasks from time to time

Skills & Experience: 

The successful candidate will have:

·       4-5 years experience in the apparel industry, within textile design

·       Natural drawing ability and broad handwriting skills

·       Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop proficient

·       Possess strong attention to detail and ability to follow design briefs

·       Technical abilities including technical repeat and colour separations

·       Demonstrated knowledge of textile techniques; embroidery, embellishment, weaving, dying and fabric printing 

·       Previous experience managing team workflow and direct reports

·       Strong commercial acumen, and demonstrated ability to effectively manage offshore supply

·       Budget management experience

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

·       Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

·       Tertiary qualification in Design or Textiles or equivalent
