About the role:
As a member of the management team, the Manage Strategic Planning is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of a range of functions and services specific to the department, including:
- Section 94 planning
- Strategic planning
- Recreation facilities planning
- Floodplain Management
- Community facilities planning
- City planning
Having a strategic focus, you will play an important role in ensuring there is effective long term plans in place for Maitland’s expected large scale growth, whilst protecting and preserving the City’s natural environment. This will involve undertaking complex planning strategy projects and studies, including the assessment and preparation of strategic planning studies, Local Environment Plan amendments, Development Control Plans, and other Council codes and policies.
About you:
To be our Manager Strategic Planning, you will have degree level qualifications in Planning (or related discipline), and solid experience in Strategic Planning, specifically in the Local Government sector. As a natural leader with high level interpersonal and communication skills, you will have previously managed staff. You will also have an ability to lead strategy development, business cases, and contribute options to advance projects and ensure risks are minimised and economic benefits maximised.

This is a permanent role with a competitive salary package on offer, including a vehicle, which will be negotiated with the successful candidate at time of offer. Managers are entitled to take special paid leave during the period of the Council’s annual shutdown over the Christmas period, (which is typically a period of 3 to 4 days in addition to prescribed public holidays) and an additional 5 days special paid leave each year which may be used for personal development.
