The Opportunity & Role
An exciting opportunity to assist with implementing the new strategic planning framework for NSW is available.  The Specialist Planning Officer will work collaboratively with teams across the Department and with councils across the State to deliver key Government planning priorities.  The role drives the development and implementation of best practice and is responsible for the delivery of high quality customer service and planning outcomes in an environment of inter-related and often competing interests.
 
The Specialist Planning Officer takes a principal role in the effective, high quality and timely consideration of the merits of highly complex planning matters to achieve Department and Government objectives, and comply with the requirements of environmental and planning legislation.
 
The role will facilitate improved practices and stronger local government performance through strengthened relationships between the Department and councils, and will use a case management approach to make the plan making and assessment systems faster and more effective.
 
The Candidate:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the following skills:
? A range of planning experience, including in development assessment and strategic planning
? An understanding of government processes related to delivering planning outcomes including an understanding of applicable legislation, and regulatory and policy framework
? The ability to produce high quality, timely reporting and advice translating complex information into plain English
? Demonstrated experience working with multiple stakeholders to deliver outcomes in an environment of competing priorities and conflicting stakeholder needs, views and opinions
? The ability to critically analysis issues and identify outcomes and solutions
? Experience in project management and in delivering multiple outcomes in a complex working environment with tight timeframes.   
 
Essential requirements

? Degree in Planning and 5+ years? experience.
? Advanced knowledge and experience of the planning system and associated legislation.
? Demonstrated experience in complex and often contentious negotiation with both local government and
proponents.
? Demonstrated experience in solution focused problem solving.
