In a nutshell

Do you consider yourself more Samwise than Frodo? Are you interested in making a difference by supporting and strengthening the effectiveness of a senior executive? As the PA to Lina, our Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, you’ll learn the inner workings of a rapidly growing global business, as you support Lina to do what she does (which is quite a lot!).  Personal Assistants can help others be superheroes – supporting, protecting and preparing them for each day’s challenges. Lina needs an awesome companion to supercharge her powers and help her get more done. In return for that, you’ll get to work in a group of smart, practical, generous and curious folks; and for a company that wants to make a difference in the world. Sometimes before they know it themselves – you’re there with a solution (or sandwich) before they realise there’s a problem (or grumbling stomach).

You might love this role simply because you love organizing schedules and making sure other people are well taken care of. But, you might also love this role for the invaluable lessons you will learn on managing a business and people – because you might want to do the same one day. It’s the kind of practical experience and exposure to decision-making that a degree (MBA included) can’t teach. And that sounds like gold dust to you.

 

If you were already in the role, last week you might have:

  • Kept on top of diary organisation, planning the right time, place and preparation for each meeting, so that great outcomes are possible.

  • Set up a meeting room to be ready for an important meeting with a key partner, making sure everything looked beautiful, the technology was set up and working, and any information that might be needed was on hand.

  • Triaged Lina’s inbox, forwarding things to relevant people, replying to things where you could, and bringing Lina’s attention to those that needed it.

  • Saved the day when Lina’s nanny called in sick by picking the kids up from school and bringing them to the office.

  • Acted as a gatekeeper for staff queries, protecting Lina’s attention while she was deep in thought by dealing with the queries as well as you could, and bringing them to Lina’s attention later when necessary.

  • Noticed that Lina was looking tired after a meeting ran over, and made sure that she got a cup of tea and some lunch.

  • Handled some life administration tasks – renewed Lina’s insurance, or looked into a holiday destination and available accommodation.

  • Attended key meetings to take notes and follow up to see that actions were being taken by those responsible for them.
