About this opportunity
Calling all dog whisperers! The dog training team at RSPCA is looking for people interested in joining their all new team. There are several roles across multi-locations in Perth.
Role statement
Dog Trainers are responsible for delivering a programme of classes to members of the general public, in accordance with the RSPCA national guidelines, principles and curriculum. The Dog Trainer will be responsible for running and coordinating their classes once the course has commenced, but will be supported by a Dog Training Coordinator and a central booking and communications database.
Context
A dedicated team of veterinarians, vet nurses and animal attendants oversee the care of more than 1000 animals at the animal shelter each year from admissions to being placed in the foster care program or adopted to their forever home.
This role helps reduce the likelihood of animals finding their way into a shelter by helping owners form a stronger bond with their pet, and ensuring pets are set up to succeed in a home.
Accountabilities
- Conduct and run group training classes using the RSPCA WA syllabus, using only positive reinforcement techniques.
- Conduct in-home consultations, if able
- Positively promote RSPCA WA dog training to the greater community
- Maintain client relationships and promote further services within RSPCA WA
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Proven ability to provide high quality dog training and handling.
- Dog training qualifications using positive reinforcement training techniques, such as Delta or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A proven ability to work independently
- Enthusiastic, highly motivated attitude
- A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- A current Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Must hold Public Liability Insurance
- Hold a current Working With Children Check card or be willing to obtain one
Desirable
- A good understanding of significant animal welfare issues in WA.
