Our Client
This well-established business has operated in the horticultural industry for over 20 years, supplying the domestic market and quickly growing export market with quality stone fruit, they take pride in the quality of their produce. They currently have 14 varieties of stone fruit on a 52ha orchard based in the Riverland of South Australia.
Position
Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, the Orchard Supervisor will utilise their knowledge and skills to lead a team of employees to ensure all orchard production practices are completed correctly in a timely manner to optimise stone-fruit production.
Key Responsibilities
- Hands-on supervision of all day-to-day orchard operations
- Supervise, train and motivate staff in a team environment with an emphasis on productivity and quality
- Oversee spraying, irrigation and fertigation, machine operation and maintenance and orchard biosecurity
- Oversee the supervisors of seasonal workers for pruning, thinning and harvesting
- Monitor pest and disease, including general weed control and general maintenance
- Ensure farm assets, tools and equipment are maintained and accounted for
- Maintain accurate records
Skills and Experience
- Leadership qualities with an eagerness to develop their career and take on more responsibility
- Ability to make decisions in a high-pressure environment
- Well-organised with the ability to prioritise tasks
- Demonstrated experience in supervising, managing and training staff (desirable)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience in a horticultural or agricultural production role would be advantageous, but is not essential
Qualifications
- Current unencumbered drivers licence
- Current ChemCert (or willingness to obtain)
- Post-secondary qualifications in horticulture or management (desirable, but not essential)
Normal Working Hours
Autumn and Winter - 38 hours
Spring - 45 hours
Summer - 45-60 hours depending on harvest requirements
Weekend work required in Spring and Summer
