SBA is looking for a competent and experienced Veterinarian in a full-time capacity. A significant proportion of veterinary work will be undertaken at SBA’s Central Victorian sites. However, veterinary support to customers is also a part of this role and will require travel. This is a senior position reporting to the CEO.

We can only accept applications from those with an immediate right to work in Australia. We require the successful individual to reside in Victoria, within reasonable travel distance to Melbourne airport and SBA’s Central Victorian sites. (Melbourne or Central Victorian locations are deemed acceptable subject to reasonable travel limits.)

 

Essential

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate Veterinarian qualifications at university level
  • Registration (or ability to be registered) as a Veterinarian in all States of Australia

Experience:

  • Provision of veterinary services to commercial layer poultry -
    • Biosecurity program development and implementation
    • Vaccination program development
    • Disease diagnosis
    • Treatment of disease
  • Practical understanding of hatcheries and incubation
  • Training of staff
  • Up to date scientific knowledge and understanding

Personal attributes:

  • Effective communication skills at all levels (verbal and written, one on one, presentations and reports) -
    • Ability to effectively get the message across to all stakeholder levels using a variety of communication methods
  • Ability to take direction from the CEO and to take on input from SBA’s senior management team and key stakeholders
  • Ethical voice in discussions -
    • Uphold the values of the veterinary profession
    • Always engage with others ethically and constructively
  • Ability to bring alternative views to senior management in a constructive way
  • Ability to champion biosecurity and disease prevention at all times
  • Understanding of the financial ramifications of recommendations to the business
  • Confidence to change established policies and procedures where evidence highlights the need to do so
  • Innovation – create and implement new ways of doing things to benefit the birds and the business

Desirable

Qualifications:

  • Post graduate qualifications in poultry health (MAM, MANZCVS or equivalent), or willingness to obtain
  • Post graduate qualifications in quality management / auditing
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment

Experience:

  • Layer breeder experience
  • Breeder layer hatchery experience
  • Importation of hatching eggs experience
  • Export of hatching eggs / day old chick experience
  • Animal welfare experience

As SBA’s Veterinarian, you will be remunerated with a competitive salary package including vehicle. SBA also has a company paid Employee Assistance Program. You will receive appropriate training and support for your role.

 

To work for SBA in this role, you must:

  • Satisfactorily complete a pre-employment medical and police check before commencement.
  • Hold and keep a current Victorian driver’s licence.
  • Not keep any birds/pigs at your place of residence.
