Our client is based in Logan and is seeking a Pest Plant Officer for their City Standards and Animal Care – commencing 16th July 2018.
 
This contract is initially up until 13th October 2018 working 38 hours per week between the hours of 6am to 3pm.  
 
Main purpose of the position:
  • To survey, record and treat problems associated with declared and environmental weeds.
  • To promote and maintain services associated with biosecurity.
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Undertake treatment programs of declared and environmental pest plants in accordance with Council's policies and procedures.
  • Report the location of declared pest plant infestations as identified in the City of Logan Pest Management Plan and Council's Local Laws.
  • Maintain accurate records in relation to survey and treatment notices in accordance with Council's procedures and policies.
  • Computer data inputting.
  • Assist in undertaking mosquito and other pest control activities on identified properties or places in accordance with state legislation and Council procedures, under the strict supervision of a Pest Management Technician.
  • Undertake any other duties as are reasonably within the limits of the employee's skills, competence and training.
  • Administer "authorised person" powers under relevant Acts.
 
Please note: A Pest Plant Officer may be given the opportunity to be the Leading Hand within a work team.
 
The duties and responsibilities expected when performing this role are:
  • Show initiative and actively supervise workplace safety
  • Set and model the standard for appropriate behaviour in the workplace as set out in organisations Code of Conduct;
  • Provide quality control by reviewing work sprayed on roads, parks and public places.
  • Monitor team members’ compliance with Code of Conduct and address any matters of noncompliance;
  • Ensure that appropriate PPE is worn as necessary by work team members;
  • Ensure team members’ compliance with position specific and organisation-wide procedures;
  • Set the appropriate standards of punctuality including starting back from a meal break;
  • Refer in writing to the Team Leader any ongoing team member non-compliance with the required standards of behaviour and initiate a joint resolution;
  • Undertake various units of supervisor training as required.
 
Selection Criteria:
  • Possession of, or ability to quickly acquire, an Agricultural Chemical Distribution Commercial Licence.
  • A sound knowledge of herbicide used to control pest plants.
  • A sound knowledge of plant identification or the ability to rapidly acquire.
  • Possess ability to communicate and deal with people at all levels and to make prompt reliable decisions within bounds of allocated responsibilities.
  • Be self-motivated and demonstrate ability to deal with other officers with tact, understanding and encouragement in performance of duties.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with an ability to acquire knowledge and an understanding of Council’s GIS (Council maps).
  • Previous experience in driving 4WD and all terrain bikes/vehicles as well as a possession of a Traffic Control Licence would be an advantage.
 
Requirements:
 
As the successful applicant, you:
  • must undergo a pre-employment functional assessment and be assessed as being able to meet the functional requirements of the position.
  • may be required to work flexible overtime hours on weekends.
  • may be required to undertake testing to assess typing, numeracy, comprehension and literacy skills.
  • must possess a current 'C' class licence.
  • possession of an ‘MR’ class licence is highly regarded.
  • may be required to swim.
 
Please be aware of the animal and declared pest related environment, which houses domestic animals and livestock as well as chemicals used for pest management and graffiti removal. Applicants should not suffer allergies or chemical sensitivities nor be adverse to an animal friendly environment. It is encouraged to visit the Centre prior to submitting an application.
 
The incumbent of this position has been identified as a person working in an "at risk work location" or is an "at risk" worker. It is mandatory that the incumbent be protected by the relevant immunisation in accordance with the organisations Staff Immunisation Program. (Vaccines for this position include Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus).
 
Working with this high profile organisation, your hourly rate will be $27.55p/h + Super.
