FIELD PRODUCTION MANAGER

Permanent, Fulltime

Covino Farms is one of Australia’s largest growers of lettuce and salads. Our business supplies lettuce, salad mixes and carrots to the eastern states in Australia, but we also operate a major processing facility where we wash, cut, dice, mix and pack fresh vegetables into a range of packaged products.

Located at our Longford site this position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for the day to day operations of the field production, including but not limited to cultivating, planting, harvesting and crop management, while maintaining a safe workplace and an environment of continuous improvement in support of the leadership team.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Management and supervision of the field production teams to ensure targets are achieved and quality product is provided in an efficient and timely manner;
  • Management of crops, pest and nutrition support, irrigation, harvesting, preparation, seeding and planting scheduling, nursery operations and site maintenance;
  • Plan daily/weekly farming activities and labour, provide a weekly and seasonal forecast regarding harvest and control operating costs vs. budget;
  • Quality control in the field; monitoring and inspecting crops before and during harvesting to ensure compliance to quality standards and system requirements; and
  • Management of all documentation relating to field production including planting, spray, nursery, harvest, stocktake records.

The successful candidate will have an impeccable track record including recent experience in managing and driving field production in a commercial agricultural operation. You will have a thorough understanding of crop management science; be an excellent communicator and possess the ability to appreciate the wider business context while maintaining a robust understanding of the detail. Not being afraid to be hands on, you will have effective negotiation skills, communicate with precision and your collaborative approach will enable you to positively influence all levels of the business.

Further desired skills and attributes:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in the Agricultural industry or fresh produce at a supervisor or manager level.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership capability.
  • Ability to give and follow instructions, ensure adherence to company policy/procedures, take responsibility for own actions, keep commitments and complete tasks on time.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Motivated to meet and exceed KPI’s with a great work ethic and a positive outlook.
  • Proven track record in delivering results against set objectives.
