We are seeking a highly motivated person who is passionate about animal welfare and animal production to help strengthen our animal welfare procedures and systems.  The ideal candidate would be based in Sydney, NSW but this is subject to negotiation.  The candidate must be prepared to travel regularly to all of our livestock operations around Australia to complete routine audits and review welfare priorities.

Key responsibilities:

  • This position will report to the National Technical and Animal Welfare Manager and involve managing and building on existing National Animal Welfare Standards and associated compliance documentation with a view towards benchmarking compliance and ensuring continuous improvement.
  • National auditing of all breeder and broiler farms, hatcheries and processing facilities and ensuring compliance with both internal and external customer Standards.
  • Contributing as an integral part of our compliance team and working closely with management and husbandry personnel to ensure animal welfare is a priority across all areas.
  • Monitoring animal welfare key performance indicators regularly and identifying areas requiring improvement or system development.
  • Maintaining documentation associated with external animal welfare auditing requirements.

Essential qualifications and attributes:

  • A genuine concern for animal welfare in the poultry industry and driving improvement in this area.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision but also contribute as part of a team.
  • An Animal Science degree or similar qualification would be preferred but is not essential.  Higher qualifications in animal welfare would be highly regarded.  New graduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Auditing or quality assurance qualifications or experience would be beneficial.
  • Poultry experience or experience working with production animals is preferred but not essential.  Mentoring and support can be provided to the right candidate. 
  • Excellent communication skills and strong commitment to work related responsibilities.

Opportunities for continuing education will be provided.  Remuneration is negotiable depending on experience.
